Challenge 3 - Information Exchange and Data Insights

HS2 generates terabytes of project data over the course of just a week. Much of this is unstructured, siloed and resides within a large and complex supply chain.

To date, HS2 has focused primarily on the data and information centred around the buildings works and physical assets however, there is a wealth of project and operational data that needs to be considered. This data is generated by multiple systems across the supply chain.

The challenges we want to address

Currently, this data is not centralised, classified or mined for insights and intelligence that could help drive more predictive and data-led operations;

  • Developing HS2’s data sandpit this may include:
    Digital tools that support the effective and compliant development of HS2’s existing sandpit environment to increase the level of data sharing and sandpit
  • Data management and security this may include:
    Applications or platforms that support the sharing of data across multiple parties, by providing confidence to data owners that their data is being managed in a compliant and secure way
  • Data cleansing and integration this may include:
    Digital tools that can accelerate the speed with which HS2 and the supply chain can collate, cleanse and integrate disparate datasets
  • Driving insight and value from data this may include:
    Digital tools that can help HS2 drive additional value and insight from the programme’s data (for example, operational, environmental or financial data) including the use of Machine Learning and AI techniques
