Please register for our application support webinar at 2pm on Tuesday 1 August here.

On 2 November 2023, Connected Places Catapult will host its first Freight Innovation Cluster Investor Day – an initiative delivered as part of the current Freight Innovation Fund programme. Running from 2-4pm, it will be held in person at the Manchester Art Gallery.

Who can apply?

This Investor Day gives SMEs seeking investment the opportunity to pitch innovative solutions to a curated pool of investors, in the freight and logistics industry. The event will feature projects at different stages of maturity and welcomes an open dialogue on how early-stage projects can be shaped into compelling investment opportunities.

The Challenges

Aligning with the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Future of Freight Plan, published in June 2022, Connected Places Catapult welcomes applications from disruptive start-ups and SMEs, whose solutions can respond to the following challenges within the sector:

Reliability:
The use of predictive, geospatial, blockchain and Artificial Intelligence technologies can increase the reliability of supply chain forecasting, planning and operations, thereby increasing supply chain resilience and flexibility.

Resilience:
Technology and data driven innovations can build resilience by shielding the sector from digital disruption and allowing it to respond more effectively to physical disruption, improving safety and working conditions.

Environmental sustainability:
The optimal technology pathway to net zero is uncertain and further technological development is required. -Potential solutions at all levels of the Technology Readiness scale are sought to mitigate the environmental impacts of freight movement, including alternative fuels.

N.B. We will prioritise solutions that can be applied in multimodal and intermodal settings.

What is the Freight Innovation Fund (FIF)?

The FIF Programme was launched by the DfT in January 2023, supporting the commercialisation of late-stage innovative freight solutions, focusing on intramodality and multimodality. The programme revolves around two key workstreams, one being a set of accelerator programmes, and the other being the development of a supporting and complementary Freight Innovation Cluster.
