Company Description

The production of concrete represents a staggering 8% of global CO2 emissions, the third biggest emitter behind China and the US.Concretene (patent pending) is a graphene-enhanced concrete (GEC) material for load-bearing structural applications, delivering up to 50% improvements in mechanical strength, as demonstrated in several TRL5-level projects undertaken. This results in a combination of reduced concrete volumes, reduced cement content and reduced steel reinforcement needed thanks to the superior mechanical performance, which reduces the total carbon-footprint by up to 50%. Over 700 tonnes have been laid on real world project since May 21.On ground bearing and suspended slabs, we have completely eliminated the requirement for reinforcement, construction joints, and thinned the slabs by up to 30%. On one slab alone, this has saved almost 14 tonnes of CO2.Nationwide Engineering Group (NEG) is a private construction business operating across several sectors including rail, aviation, civil engineering, commercial, residential and speculative development. We are the only specialist company in the world deploying GEC on real projects and have direct route to market through our construction Group, particularly across several Network Rail Frameworks and Crown Commercial Government Building Framework.NEG established Concretene as a separate Ltd company to develop and exploit this technology, having spent 3 years in the development of this with the University of Manchester's Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre, the home of Graphene.Concretene is a liquid additive that is mixed with ready mixed concrete in the batching plant, requiring no new hardware or software and no specialist training - it behaves just like ordinary concrete and is non-disruptive to existing construction processes. It is not a specialist concrete for limited applications, but can be added to any structural concrete worldwide to enhance its performance and therefore allow step change reductions in CO2. Our aim is to create an internationally licenced concrete additive. Objectives for next 24 months:With the technology and supply chain proved on real world projects, the next steps are to:1. To validate long-term performance (up to 120 years) using industry standard (ATSM_C642/C1293/C452/C1138) accelerated ageing testing2. To complete accreditation testing and submit for CE and BBA certification to allow deployment in high-risk load-bearing structures3. Develop international licencing agreementsWe are seeking partners to assist in meeting these objectives
